Register now for our upcoming webinar, ‘Open data, academia, and ethics: responsible use of AI‑generated and synthetic data in research', taking place on Friday, 5 June 2026, from 10.00 to 11.00 CEST.

This webinar is the second episode of the series “Open data, academia, and ethics”, a three‑part programme that explores how open data and emerging technologies shape research integrity, knowledge production, and public trust. In this second episode, Thomas Lampert, Professor and former Chair of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science at the University of Strasbourg, will introduce synthetic and AI‑generated data from a technical and analytical perspective, explaining how these forms of data are created and used in practice. Using examples from medical imaging and remote sensing, he will highlight both the opportunities and the challenges these technologies present for research and decision‑making. The second presentation, given by Ella Hafermalz, Associate Professor of Work and Technology at KIN, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, will examine how researchers and institutions can distinguish between real and synthetic data, and how responsible practices can help prevent misuse while supporting transparency and trust in research.

The webinar will conclude with an interactive Q&A, giving participants the opportunity to engage directly with the speakers.

After registering, you will receive a confirmation email with a calendar invite and webinar link. This session is part of the ‘Measuring the impact of open data’ course by the data.europa academy and will be recorded for future access.
